The Dream Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) not-for profit organization dedicated to assisting the indigent and less fortunate through direct and indirect programs and grants.

The Foundation seeks to address the increasing problem with respect to access to affordable medical  and dental treatment for the underprivileged. The Foundation  promotes other programs that seek to improve general medical  health, relieve poverty and homelessness, and provides funding for programs that provide research care and treatment of Sickle Cell disease and programs designed to reduce infant diseases, birth defects, infant mortality and low birth weight babies through its specialty license plate program.

The Foundation is currently exploring funding for a new technology which has been developed at a public university that will significantly reduce tooth decay in children.

To facilitate funding, the Foundation created the official Florida 'Live the Dream' specialty license plate, which is now available at all Florida tag offices and is authorized by the Heirs of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. If you have your tag renewal notice, you can order the 'Live the Dream' plate ONLINE, by clicking here: ORDER ONLINE.

Authorized by the Heirs of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

To obtain the tag, go to your local Tag Office and tell them you want to switch to the 'Live the Dream' specialty license plate. Your registration renewal cost will be an additional $37.00 ($25.00 annual fee for the 'Live the Dream' plate; $2.00 annual state fee; and a one-time new plate cost of $10.00. If your renewal notice indicates you must replace your existing license plate, you do not pay the $10.00 new plate fee.

The funds generated from the sale of the ‘Live the Dream’ specialty license plate are distributed to the Dream Foundation to be used in the following manner:

  • 25% of the funds shall be distributed equally among the sickle cell organizations that are Florida members of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. for programs that provide research, care and treatment for Sickle Cell Disease;
  • 25% goes to the March of Dimes, Florida Chapter, for programs and services that improve the health of babies through the prevention of birth defects and infant mortality;
  • 10% goes to the Florida Association of Healthy Start Coalitions, to decrease racial disparity in infant mortality and to increase healthy birth outcomes. Funding is used by local Healthy Start Coalitions to provide services and increase screening rates for high-risk pregnant women, children under 4 years of age, and women of childbearing age; and
  • 10% goes to the Community Partnership for Homeless, Inc. for programs that provide relief from poverty, hunger, and homelessness.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING SICKLE CELL GRANT DISBURSEMENT
After July 1, 2007 disbursements regarding sickle cell will go directly to each of the registered Sickle Cell Associations in accordance with the amended statute, in proportionate amounts and will be disbursed on a bi-monthly or bi-annual basis.
